Uniqlo’s Human Vending Machine

Wtf is this?

uniqlo_times_square.jpg

Uniqlo’s latest marketing get go for their Heat Tech Innerwear is rather bizarre. I had to go “WTF” on my opening line for this blog because it was the first thing that came into mind. So, this marketing launch is set at New York’s Time Square and what you do is it allows shoopers the opportunity to use a human vending machine. It works by putting a human in a box and mime around whenever someone pushes a button.

Weird? You betcha!

Basically we’re going to have two mimes. A male and a female mime inside the machine. And the public can see them through glass. When you get there, we’re going to have Uniqlo reps dressed in the silver bodysuits. And they’re going to hold a thermograph scanner — think of an airport security machine. The thermographer identifies cold spots in your body. After you go through that, you go to the vending machine and push a button and the mimes are going to do a synchronized choreographed routine and then your outfit comes out.

The two-purpose gadget

aacd_usb_flash_drive_light.jpg

There are many two-purpose gadgets around but I rather like this one. I am not a smoker but I like carrying a lighter around because you never know when it will come in useful. What makes it better is that this lighter is also a USB Flash Drive of 8Gig capacity. Talk about functionality, baby.

Check out the specs:
* Refillable lighter with built-in USB flash drive
* 8GB capacity
* USB connector slides out of the lighter
* Metal case
* Adjustable flame
* Includes USB cable
* Dimensions: 1.5″ x 2.4″ x .5″ (3.8 x 6 x 1.3 cm)

Get one for yourself or for an early Christmas pressie for later here: USB 8GB Flash Drive Lighter

Remember, your tech people are humans too

A poll was conducted by Cyber Ark to see if IT pros would steal sensitive information from their company if fired. And a staggering 88% said they would steal sensitive data and mess with the master password should they be laid off. That’s 9 out of 10. That means, chances of hiring a good IT Pro who won’t steal company data and follow the confidentiality agreement to the tee is 1 out of 10.

Consider yourself warned. :P

Cyber-Ark claims that one-third of companies participating in the survey experience data breaches and theft on a regular basis. Information is leaked to competitors through a multitude of vectors, including e-mail, portable devices, and USB thumb drives. More than a quarter are also the victims of internal sabotage.

Many readers are undoubtedly familiar with Simon Travaglia’s Bastard Operator From Hell (BOFH), the fictional confessions of a disgruntled system administrator who uses his technological expertise to manipulate his employer, destroy his enemies, and torture users on the company network. If Cyber-Ark’s study reflects reality, then the insidious machinations of the BOFH might not be so far-fetched.

Can anything be done to stop the sky from falling? Cyber-Ark says that routinely changing company passwords will reduce the risk of damage if an employee with high-level access is fired.

Takara Tomy’s Toddling Babies

Babies with shaking butt crawling all over your table? Takara Tomy’s latest toy is all about that, it seems. It plugs the cuteness and the addictive wiggles of these toys that I am ashamed to say that even I am intrigued by it.

See for yourselves.
