Remember a time when you’re filling in forms and you realize that you don’t remember the DAY or DATE? Yea, me too. I often get weird looks from people when i asked them what day and date it is like. You could almost here “Where were you?” screaming from their looks. Ha ha ha…

Hilarious.

So someone invented DayClock for you to put into your home just in case you might now remember what day you’re in to save you some embarrassment. Hmm, they should make one for the wrist.

Pillows that Twists into Storage

pj-pillows.jpg

PJ Pillows

A product of Ikea? Nope, not even close. Modern Twist has designed a pillow called PJ Pocket Pillows, that can be converted into a storage space. This is suitable for rooms that are made for kids really. Once they’re tired, they can just sleep on it and once they’re done playing, they just need to twist and the pillow becomes a bag.

Founder of Modern Twist, Kate Nouri, said that their product was a hit in the recent New York International Gift Fair. The thing about this Pillow cum Bags are in fact a Japanese inspired design - inspired by the design of a Japanese anemone box (traditionally used to store family heirlooms), the pillows come in a 13” hexagonal shape in various abstract fabric designs that would look great in the living room or the bedroom.

“I’ve often been told that I was too picky and way too detail-oriented, but that’s precisely the market I was aiming for, to do it just right,” she reflects.

These bags have been picked by retailers around the US and is doing pretty good.

Each PJ Pockets costs $105. Modern Twist also donates one percent of their profit to OnePercentForThePlanet.org.

Bang & Olufson’s Beolab 9 Speakers

It’s got the style, it’s got funk,
it’s got the power,
to blast you back into your trunks.

beolab9.jpg

Beolab 9

Bang & Olufson’s Beolab 9 Speakers are quite the something for audiogeeks. Not only does it look like your mom’s air humidifier, it also looks like an electric kettle. But that’s really besides the point, isn’t it? I truly believe that when something is from Bang and Olufson, they’re just one of the best audio people in the world, you just want to stare in awe and nod in agreement that it looks good. I don’t really like how it looks but we already know that. :P

Anyway, here’s what they from B&O say about their Beolab9 speakers:

The unique conical shaped cabinet houses the usual mid-range and bass units. Sitting atop the speaker is the B&O patented Acoustic Lens that disperses the treble within a 180 degrees arc. This, according to the company, guarantees uniform sound characteristics in front of the speaker, letting the listener hear constant timbre even while he is shifting places. The absence of a sub-woofer is compensated for by another technology, “Adaptive Bass Linearisation,” that prevents distortion while delivering excellent bass performance. The speaker also has a manual position switch that changes the sound based on it’s position in the room. The speaker can be placed in an open area, a corner or against a flat wall without any compromise of the sound.

The question is, would I get it? If I am a millionaire and I own my own home theater system, I might. This set of speakers will be setting you back around USD10k. And it comes in four colors too: red, blue, dark grey, and black.

Top 5 Wi-Fi Toys for Home

PingMag has an article up about the Top 5 Wi-Fi toys at home. One of the contenders is Japanese robotic toy “Personal Robot 100″ from NEC. It can read out your emails to you as it moves around your house.

What I like about the gadgets listed here is that they do actually have some function, rather than just being there looking pretty. They aren’t a complete waste of resources.

Anyway, check it out!

Chestnut Hill: When sound and style mix

I am an iPod groupie. Yes. I LOVE iPod but that would send a lot of anti-iPod-ers screaming shame at me for being part of a fashion fad. Tch tch but the shame is on them. While some iPod accessories like the iPod Hi-Fi system by Apple and and Bose’s Sound Dock (i know there are many other but currently these are the main ones) are more mainstream, Chestnut Hill Sound is out with their very own iPod dockable sound system, aptly named George. I once had a goldfish name George, I thought I’d like to share that. Anyway, George (not the goldfish) has what it takes to be more than meets the eye. Well, I say that because most of the iPod dockable systems I know of do not have an AM/FM station, that’s a pretty big leap in my opinion. You can see some of the examples here and here and here.

Well, the Chestnut Hill Sound’s George will be out later this month. I guess then would be the time to see if it lives up to its hype. However, I absolutely dig the design and its detachable LCD screen controller. It looks good. Period. Soundwise, it can’t be that bad but damn, it’s looks good!

With Sanyo’s new vacuum cleaners, no need to wash the filter for 6 years

Good news for all of you who still have carpet and love to break their back using a vacuum cleaner — can you tell I am a fan of wooden floors? On September 1st, Sanyo will release their Cyclone vacuum cleaner series, which introduce a filter system that you can protect with an ordinary tissue, as well as a lever to shake off dusts, relieving you from the ADDITIONAL chore of washing the filter for up to six years. The highest model will cost 67,200 yen ($650).

In this filter system, a tissue is set in front of the filter so it catches small pieces of trash and dust before they reach the filter. For this, any standard-type tissues are available. (…) The filter is multi-folded porous ethylene resin tetrafluoride, and designed to vibrate off the dust when the lever is moved.

Sanyo recommends to change the set tissue every time before starting cleaning. Well, considering the amount of free promo/advertising tissue you get in the streets of Tokyo everyday, at least it this part shouldn’t be a problem.

The Original Sushi Pillow

You love sushi, and you love your living room, you will love your “sushi pillow”. As you might guess from the name, the sushi pillows are giant sushi-looking pillows. Just like in a sushi bar, these sushi are hand made and you can order the one you like, e.g. california roll, avocado roll, ebi nigiri, etc. The rolls are 12 inches (30cm) diameter by 5 (13cm), and the nigiri pillows are 14 inches long, 8 wide and 11 high (35 x 20 x 28cm). But if you live outside the US, you only have 3 days to get interested because they will no longer take international orders from August 6th onward. More specs and pictures on TheOriginalSushiPillow.com of course.
