I proclaim myself to be someone who lovesssssss kitchen gadgets. I went ga-ga when I saw Nigella Lawson’s automatic pepper crusher and dispenser. The soft vibrating sound of that tiny gadget tingles me. I have yet to find one similar though. But anyway, today we’re going to talk about blenders. I inherited an old blender from my future in-law’s before I moved into this new place. The blender is yellow from age but don’t let the eyes fool you because at a grip, the blender is REALLY a monster. Not awful as in horridly a monster but it’s a monster in blending, crushing, chopping and whipping things up into a bed of smooooothness. This blender is pretty loud too but that’s because of it’s monster motor!
Kinetix Ikon 600
Anyway, this blender is an old Ikon blender from Breville, an Australian brand. Well, I found its descendent today called the Kinetix Ikon 600! It’s got 1000watts capacity with ‘kinetix’ blade that shakes up food and blend them so you never have to stop you blender to redistribute ever again! So you have undisturbed blending time that produces evenly and silky smoothies. I think the blender will be a keeper, just like it’s old predecessor, but just quieter and modified with our modern advancements.
It’s available in Australia now but it will soon be available in US for about $200 bucks. I’m all for buying quality that lasts a lifetime and 200 bucks for an investment that generates lots of blending happiness and returns? Priceless!

…Unique Knife Holder.
The Ex
Please tell me I am not weird to find this gadget a little attractive? I love the concept of it even though its macabre-like. But think of it this way, you come home from work, pissed off because your boss made fun of you infront of the entire management and you’re hungry. So you cook. But with The Ex- Unique Knife Holder, you can pretend that the dude stabbed with knives is your boss and you’d re-insert each and every knife again because it feeeels soooo goood. DIE DIE DIE!
Of course, we all know that this knife holder can also be used for The Ex :) It’s uniquely gratifying to be stabbing The Ex for breaking your heart and not go to jail for it. Cathartic, I must say.
This cutting edge design has magnets to hold each knife is place, so even if you do put them back with force, it will stay in place and glide smoothly. Of course, becareful with your own hands though. The knife holder also comes with 5 knives :) Just what every kitchen needs, the Ex factor.

You don’t really hear about cup ramen in Australia unless you go to Asian groceries. We do have it, but it’s called “two minute noodles” instead and has a slightly different preperation method. You put boiling water in it then microwave for two minutes. So actually, it’s more like 5 minute noodles because you have to wait for the water to boil first.
In Japan, you need to put boiling water into the cup/bowl then stand for three minutes. If you start eating too quickly, your noodles will be al dente. Leave it too late, and they’ll be soggy and disintegrating.
So here’s a product that will simmer your cup ramen for exactly three minutes. Designed for the busy, drunk or forgetful.
I have a question though: Do you really need to simmer it while you wait for 3 minutes? Doesn’t that just overcook it?
This product was for sale in Akihabara. I guess I should just go with it. I’m sure no one knows more about how to prepare the perfect cup ramen than a bunch of otaku.

Eh?

It’s being marketed as a way to destroy confidential documents in the home, as a shredder is probably overkill, and bad for the environment. It could also be used in the kitchen, like Gilette’s 5-bladed scissors that were advertised a while ago. But maybe only if you cook lots of Japanese food, because I can’t think of anything else you may want to cut into small shreds besides seaweed sheets.
So, for about US$20, you can have this sometimes useful conversation piece on your office desk or in the home!

Sharp has introduced last September their AX-HC1 electric oven which enables low-calorie cooking with its “Superheated Steam System” that roasts using water. The AX-HC1 features a newly developed Superheated Steam Generator that “bathes food in a spray of superheated steam to provide low-calorie cooking as well as removing fat and salt from foods”.
This technique produces superheated 300°C steam which is sprayed onto the food and gets the excessive fat to quickly melt and drop away. The AX-HC1 can roast, grill, steam, warm and defrost, and its low-oxygen cooking limits loss of valuable nutrients such as vitamin C due to oxidation. It has a 26 liters capacity and a retail price of JPY126,000 yen (approx. USD1260).
Recently intriduced in Singapore , it will soon be available in other Asian markets such as Hong Kong and Indonesia, and then Europe and North America later in the year.
