Forget Apple’s Tablet. NEC to launch Android tablet early 2010

We’ve all been waiting patiently for Apple’s mysterious tablet (or iSlate, depending on what you want to call it). While it’s uncertain exactly when in the next year that product will launch, rumor has it that Jobs is extremely pleased with the result. So while we’re all waiting for that bombshell to drop, there are a few other tablet PCs to occupy our time with.

The latest is this new Android tablet from NEC, which is said to launch in Japan early in the new year. Admittedly it does look pretty slick, although there ain’t no way that it’s going to shine like Apple’s tablet. Read the rest of this entry »

Taking it back to the basics – real basic.

These cupspeakers are the creation of Dmitri Zagga. Reliving your childhood spy games with a paper cup and a long string can now be realized. But I must commend the ingenuity with this creation. Oh and it’s part of the whole iPod accessory thingy.

The undeserving review of iPod Nano Gen4

The iPod is the only deserving material that has ever come out of the Apple brand *ducks pot and pans thrown by Apple fans*. Look, there’s a reason why I said this review is undeserving. It’s because it’s coming from me, a certified anti-Apple philistine.

Recently, I made a purchase on the 4th generation iPod Nano because my previous iPod Nano (2nd Gen) had the “white screen of death”. That basically renders my iPod Nano into an iPod shuffle…a $54 dollars rendering that still has me pulling my hair but I digress, i love my current iPod Nano for the simple fact that it is slimmer, with a curvaceous body and holds a lot more space for less than what I paid for (or whoever who paid for me, as it was a gift). I also love the fact that it is in the color I chose, yellow, and that it had a color screen that does more than just look pretty.

The intelligent screen adjusts to how your iPod is tilted and it even shuffles to the next song when you give it a shake. I know, I know, I have fallen for a gimmicky trend that Apple has forever used on its fanbase – make it look pretty, charming and make it useful for the most useless of things: music. Seriously, carrying 3000 song and do you listen to all 3000 of it? Unless you work in an environment where you get paid for listening to music, i doubt you’d even skim the foam of 300 daily. But anyway, anyway, anyway, the new iPod Nano has me in deep…oh fuck you, Apple…why did you have to create something so perfect and yet so useless?????

There is no need to speed up the culture of materialism, isn’t it?

What else? What else?

My yellow iPod Nano has an inscription on the back that says “This [insert sex here; gender, you pervert] sleeps with butterflies”. It makes it all the more endearing when we can customize it.

One gripe though, I find the Genius Bar in the iPod Nano to be demeaning to our intellect. We already have gadgets that help us crack and egg, do we really need a *genius* bar to help us pick our music? Well, maybe for the lazy asses who don’t want to use an iota of brain think this is a good feature. I think it’s Steve Jobs trying to put his paws on our individuality because he’s such a control freak – go figure, his Macs are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO clean and virus free but hell, that’s just mainly because Macs are incompatible with so many programs. When you live in a controlled environment, it means your live in a place where the sort of diseases or viruses are controlled too. So, no Macs are not better than PCs because they live in a sheltered life – it just means they’re virgins – just like how the aliens in the movie War of the Worlds got pwnnedd by airborne bacterias and microorganisms in our air. They were in their little bubble heads and then when it’s out in the real world, they just die from diseases. this is what’s gonna happen when we take Steve Jobs out of the picture…Apple products, might just die.

Now how did I go off tangent from the iPod Nano, now? Okay, it’s a great gadget and worth getting because after all the generations, they’ve come pretty close to perfection on this one.

Apple sued for overselling sub par iPhone 3G

A little bird told me that the iPhone 3G is not exactly performing up to standards with bugs and problems, fixable with only an overhaul. Question is why was Apple sued by iPhone 3G owner, William Gillis? It’s not because it is under performing. I mean it is but there is a deeper problem than that.

At the rate the iPhone is being sold, at sub par standards, Gillis is fed up at the marketing ploy to sell as many iPhone as possible by AT&T is affecting the quality of the iPhones out there because very simply, if focus is on selling then almost zero focus is on maintaining quality. Overproduction =/= quality. There is also talks that the connection for iPhone 3G is bad because it’s been programmed to hog the line to maintain the AT&T signal.

What did I tell you, Apple (and fan base)? Zealousness, and overly so, will get you nowhere. Your marketing ploy for the “everything can be done in the iPhone” is nothing but a ploy because other than your inbuilt GPS system, which I would rather get a TomTom’s anyway, your internet-related functions are mere wastes of space and time. Frankly, I find surfing the net on a phone no matter how “large” the screen is to be silly and unproductive. Everything is so small, typing must be a pain in the ass.

In his 18-page filing, Gillis points out the 3G tower power issue that recently leaked to the public in which an AT&T worker disclosed that current sub-par connections are caused by iPhones sucking too much power for AT&T transmitters to maintain proper 3G signals. Given this knowledge, Gillis feels the iPhone was clearly sold past network capacity creating problems that cascaded to every AT&T 3G users.

iPhone hits 3Million

Sales of the new iPhone hit a record-breaking 3 million in one month, according to Scott Moritz of Fortune. If an iPhone sells for $199 each, three million sets sold would give Apple, what? $597000000…….

That is a lot of money.

NEW YORK (FORTUNE) — Talk about your summer scorchers.

One month after its debut, Apple’s new iPhone has hit the 3 million sold mark, according to analyst Michael Cote of the Cote Collaborative.

“They are seeing unprecedented demand,” says Cote, adding that there appears to be no signs of a let up yet. Cote, a former T-Mobile executive, has been extremely accurate with wireless predictions in the past.

iPhone 3G unlocked 4 days down the road

My friend told me that she is completely enamored by the iPhone 3G for reasons of cuteness. I didn’t exactly know how to react because cuteness did not cross my mind whenever I think of the iPhone. I’ve always thought of it as an overrated piece of metal, that many business people use as their PDA. I mean, get a REAL PDA for god’s sake. Get a Blackberry.

Anyway, my friend lives in Malaysia so she would need to get an unlocked version of the iPhone because Malaysia do not have an AT&T service or agreement whatsoever, yet. And I got wind that iPhone 3G can be unlocked like it’s predecessor by using a card/sim adapter to piggyback your simcard to trick the phone into thinking that it is an acceptable sim card.

As you can see, it works just fine with that sim adapter. You know, I really think that iPhone should just allow everyone in the world to use their phone. The Chinese are gonna hack it anyway, or reproduce an iPhone that is not AT&T selective. More people would buy the iPhone and maybe I’ll change my views a bit about Apply being a real elitist.

The iPhone 3G is plagued

Like the Bubonic plague, the iPhone 3G has some pretty intense issues that would get new iPhone 3G owners stomping their foot and wanting to claw the eyeballs out an Apple staff. Lines after lines of people awaited their turn, like the slow death of the Bubonic affliction, to try to get their iPhone activated. AT&T have acknowledged that there is an issue with syncing their iPhone to iTunes and a multi-folds of issues that any well respected, well tested gadget should not face. When the iPhone was released last year, it had the same issues surfaced as well. Ironic?

Apple’s iPhone 3G launch has become a stressful day of failed activations, mirroring activation issues during the original iPhone launch last year, accounts indicate. The 2007 launch saw AT&T servers go down in a flood of activations; this year AT&T says that there has been a global problem with Apple’s iTunes servers that prevents phones from being fully activated in-store, as had been planned. Customers have been told to finish activating their phones at home, but have faced the same problems there, according to Associated Press reports. While both Apple and AT&T are signing up users for AT&T service, neither company is able to complete activation in-store and both are asking customers to finish their activation at home; unfortunately, until the final iTunes activation, the iPhones are not able to make/receive calls.

“It’s such grief and aggravation,” says Frederick Smalls, an insurance broker in Whitman, Massachusetts, who spent two hours on the phone with Apple and AT&T while trying to get his new iPhone to work.

“On the iTunes front, yes, we see intermittent issues there still,” admits an AT&T representative. “We are suggesting to our customers that, after purchasing their new iPhone and voice and data plan, they synch the device later at home while Apple works hard to resolve the iTunes issues.”

iPhone 3G: Everybody wants one

The first person in the world who got the iPhone 3G was a guy in New Zealand. His name is Jonny Gladwell and he’s first at the Apple store: Proof from Giz:

Being this proud about being the first in the world to buy an Apple iPhone 3G is no different from being first at owning the new self-washing toilet. Flushhh….

Gadgets come and gadgets go, 6 months from now someone else is going to top the Apple 3G. For those who are in the dark, 3G isn’t exactly a new technology, plenty of mobile phones have adorn this function waaaaay long before the Apple iPhone ever did. “Ohh…touch screen, ooh! and it has 3G *flocks around it like flies to waste*”. What’s so lucky about this bastard?
