Copters can go green too

glider11.jpg

Look at this prototype of a copter that may be a mode of transportation that is recyclable.

Don’t want your car anymore? Chop it up and feed the plants. Don’t want your copter anymore? Chop it up and feed the plants.

It’s name is Orlen.

I know, some people refuse to be to technically savvy by fear of being labelled as an otaku. But calling a glider (who have always been knida green/hippystuff) as a ‘copter’ (you mean chopper or helicopter ?) is a little to colorfull as a stretch don’t you think ?

Also… while looking at the site… just unicorns are missing. It’s warm&fuzzy engineering, no doors(that I can see at least) might create an incredible drag (remember when they tell you to drive with window closed to reduce fuel use…), I don’t really want to know what is their rationalisation for the front motor. But *pure hors3shit* come to my mind. Solar panel on a glider will make them too heavy, hybrid engine ? more weight for nothing. Shweizer glider are made of wood and fabric, from a recycling standpoint you can’t beat that.

And the best part “designed-for-disassembly”: When your primary goal when building something is to make it easily disposable. you might as well not do it. Expandable cars still require a lot of energy to make and recycle, that should be included in their environemental cost, not just the lies about their mpg. A 1936 Horch will last forever. My 98 A4 died in 5 years… guess who is taking more place in the landfill…

    In fine… it’s a design study… call back when it’s an engineering study…
