Sony NW-HD5 Network Walkman

Yey! Sony is finally waking up, after Apple successfully ate most of their portable music market worldwide… After many years trying to push their proprietory ATRAC format, they started recently to make their players compatible to the de-facto standard MP3 format, and now they are boosting their players and competing with the king iPod at last.
The new NW-HD5 Network Walkman has everything that matters: it is smaller than the previous versions, offers 20Gb of storage (Sony says this is the smallest 20Gb player on the market with measurements of 5.6cm x 8.9cm), and weights a light 125 grams.
It should come with an easily removable and replaceable battery that will last 40hrs, which I must admit I find difficult to believe…
This new player will come in three colours: silver, red and black will feature Sony’s “Follow Turn Display” function, where the display window can change from landscape to portrait depending on the orientation it is being held in.
The NW-HD5 costs JPY34,800, which does compensate for being pretty ugly. But if you still want to see more pictures anyway, Engadget has a series of shots of the NW-HD5 side by side with the iPod (They also spotted on Tuesday a page for the NW-HD5 on Amazon.co.uk).
